Place flour in a mixing bowl, make a well, add egg, salt, and warm water gradually to knead a firm dough.
Cover the dough and let it rest for 20 minutes.
For the filling, mash the boiled potatoes and mix with finely chopped onion sautéed in butter, curd cheese, black pepper, and salt.
Roll out walnut-sized pieces of rested dough into small circles.
Place filling in the center of each dough circle and seal the edges with the traditional braided haluj technique.
Drop the haluj into a large pot of boiling salted water and cook for about 5-7 minutes after they float to the surface.
Drain the cooked haluj, place on a serving plate, and drizzle with melted butter and red pepper flakes before serving hot.
Note. Make sure the edges are sealed tightly so they don't open up while boiling.
The dough shouldn't be too soft, and the edges must be firmly pressed together to seal.
Traditionally, fillings can also include special Circassian cheese or minced meat.
